Albert Einstein, One Very Clever Man !

Albert Einstein said, Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Our NHS and DUK should take note. They do the same thing over and over again with their dietary recommendations. Despite having dietitions and a never ending stream of new drugs at their disposal, the dietary insanity continues. Nothing illustrates Einstein’s quote better than the NHS own audits. The big question, are they stupid, insane, or do they want to continue the carnage ?

Results for England. The National Diabetes Audit 2010-2011
Percentage of registered Type 1patients in England
HbA1c >= 6.5% (48 mmol/mol) = 92.6%
HbA1c >   7.5% (58 mmol/mol) = 71.3%
HbA1c > 10.0% (86 mmol/mol) = 18.1%

Percentage of registered Type 2 patients in England
HbA1c >= 6.5% (48 mmol/mol = 72.5%
HbA1c > 7.5% (58 mmol/mol) = 32.6%
HbA1c >10.0% (86 mmol/mol) = 6.8%

These pitiful results are very similar to those obtained in previous NHS audits over the past 5 - 6 years.

As you can see these are percentage figures. The actual total number of diagnosed diabetics over the last five years has escalated greatly, and continues north by the day. Last word to Dr. Malcolm Kendrick.

 “The reality is that over the years, and around the world we have killed literally millions of diabetics by advising them to eat a high-carb diet and avoid fats. Only now is it being recognised that previous advice was and remains useless, dangerous and scientifically illiterate"

Hi I think that your blog is really nice!

The health professionals make their recommendations for high carb on the basis of well established & repeatable results:
Follow this diet & your T2D will progress through increasing medication to complications.

As far as they are concerned, ALL counter-evidence is individual & not scientifically valid.

Pete Seeger was right - "When will they ever learn?"

These figures are very sobering and only remind us that for the majority progress is not being made.

There are a few of us who do. We are fortunate to find blogs like this one, and others, which give good advice and information for which we can then make far more informed choices.

I do echo the sentiment 'When will they ever learn'

To Ian

Thanks for your comment. From a question you asked on the Dr. Briffa blog.

“Eddie Mitchell – are you the infamous Eddie who used to contribute aggressively to the http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum ? And you are still alive & well after 4 years low carb?”

Yes I am the infamous Eddie, stalwart scourge of the low carb antis and dietitions who should know better. Contrary to the dire warnings from the ex resident dietition at diabetes.co.uk, I have not succumbed to scurvy, osteoporosis, constipation, kidney failure, yellow jack or mange. Thank you for enquiring about my health. I am doing very well thanks, as are many of the departed members of the aforementioned forum.

I am in regular contact with many of the early forum low carb members. Fergus, Graham64, John Wilson, Ray Davies, Wallycorker, and others. Some of us meet a couple of times a year for a meal and chew the saturated fat, all are doing very well. Fergus still holds HbA1c in the mid fours, and works hard promoting the lowcarb cause. Between us we have been lowcarbing well over fifty years and no increase in diabetes medication. Some are meds free to this day. I read your posts and am chuffed to see you and people like Hana doing well. I also appreciate the work you do for others, trying to reform the lamentable dietary advice at DUK meetings.

Good luck and health to all.
