Obesity in Wales 'just behind USA', Dr Nadim Haboubi warns !

Wales' obesity "epidemic" is so bad that it lags just behind world leader the USA and it is getting worse, a prominent obesity doctor has warned.
Dr Nadim Haboubi said a lack of NHS resources in Wales meant thousands of people were missing out on essential surgery and community help.
He added that the NHS in England intervened earlier to prevent related health issues such as diabetes.
The Welsh government said health boards were deciding where to focus resources.
Dr Haboubi, who is also chair of the National Obesity Forum for Wales and runs the country's only NHS-funded obesity clinic, said the problem was "huge, massive, worse than England, worse than anywhere in the UK and among the worst in the western world, I would argue".
"The worst is probably the USA but we're certainly not far behind," he said.

Lack of funding and lack of direction does not help this situation. Mind you even with more funding the message needs to be clear to stay away from sugar, too much bread, potatoes, processed foods etc. that contain too many 'hidden' sugars, salt.
More emphasis should be given to healthy eating fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish etc. But without more funding the situation will get worse before it gets better. It's not only this generation but the next generation, education will help but what undermines all of this is money.

Sorry to copy you here but I agree wholeheartily with you "But without more funding the situation will get worse before it gets better. It's not only this generation but the next generation, education will help but what undermines all of this is money."
And each part of the country have slightly different 'cash' or lack of it issues I'm afraid.

With our NHS in the state it's in things unfortunately are only going to get worse. It is a postcode lottery, wherever you live, England, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland too.

Of course being cynical you could say that wherever you live in this country or further afield do the big food companies and pharmaceautical companies, governments even care? With the money still coming in Fred, Joe, Harry etc can look after themselves as long as we're all right Jack. What an appalling attitude but this selfishness and greed is growing and the shorter the money supply gets the worse it will become.

Sorry to sound like the voice of doom.

I'm going to cheer myself up with a coffee and soon settle down and watch the Belgium qualifying on the good old Beeb.
